What is mapacho?
Mapacho is the Amazonian name for Nicotiana rustica, a wild tobacco species distinct from the Nicotiana tabacum used in most cigarettes and commercial cigars. Indigenous communities across the Amazon basin have grown, cured, and worked with mapacho for generations, treating it as a sacred plant used in ceremony, prayer, and traditional practice. Sold today as whole, hand-rolled leaf tobacco, mapacho carries a much higher natural nicotine content than typical cigarette tobacco.
What makes mapacho a premium cigar?
Premium cigars are their own category under federal law, separate from cigarettes and from mass-market tobacco products. A product belongs to that category because of how it is made, not because of how it is marketed. Plant Realm’s mapacho is pure Nicotiana rustica: whole leaf, hand-rolled, with no filter, no non-tobacco tip, no additives and no added flavoring.
Because the category is about the product itself, we keep the formulation simple and do not vary it — the same leaf, cured and rolled the same way, batch after batch.
What that means for you as a buyer: the pack you receive contains tobacco and nothing else. No additives to disclose, no flavorings, no processing beyond curing and hand-rolling.
Does the premium-cigar classification exempt mapacho from the PACT Act?
Yes. The federal Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking (PACT) Act sets strict rules for shipping cigarettes and smokeless tobacco directly to consumers. Premium cigars are not subject to those shipping restrictions, which is why your order can ship to you from inside the United States rather than crossing a border to reach you.
How is Plant Realm different from mapacho sold as “incense” or shipped from overseas?
Many mapacho sellers ship from outside the United States or label their product as “incense” or “not for human consumption” to avoid tobacco regulation entirely. Plant Realm takes a different approach: because our mapacho is classified and sold honestly as a premium cigar, we can label it accurately, ship it domestically from Texas, and skip the customs uncertainty and mislabeling risk that comes with importing tobacco from abroad.
What are the age and delivery requirements?
Sales are limited to adults 21 and older, verified at checkout through our age verification system. Every shipment requires a UPS Adult Signature on delivery — no exceptions, and no leaving packages unattended.
Do state laws still apply?
Yes. The federal premium-cigar classification governs FDA oversight and PACT Act shipping restrictions, but state and local tobacco laws still apply on top of that, and they vary.
