A different leaf from the one Ohio once grew

The Miami Valley around Dayton spent more than a century growing cigar-filler tobacco, Nicotiana tabacum cured for the rollers of the Midwest. Mapacho comes from a different species entirely: Nicotiana rustica, grown by traditional farmers in the Peruvian Amazon, cured slowly and rolled by hand. It is pure rustica leaf with no additives, flavorings or sheet binders, which is what qualifies it as a premium cigar under federal law, and it is considerably stronger than anything that ever came out of an Ohio curing barn.
